Led by chef and owner, Colt Taylor, The Essex takes a modern, elevated approach to regional American cuisine - turning the simple into the sublime! We feature locally sourced products from the local Connecticut and New England family farms and fisherman, and highlight produce from our own beautiful hydroponic garden. Dining around our open kitchen, you can watch these ingredients come to life through our innovative, yet approachable menu. And alongside this ever-evolving house menu, we offer daily specials, as seen below.

Our regional American cuisine takes local ingredients and plays with flavor profiles and techniques from around the world. The dinner menu at The Essex does not feature traditional appetizers and entrees, rather we use a ´tapas´style approach. This means small plates are meant to shared; you work down the menu, the size of the plates grow. Eat, drink and be merry!

Retro Happy Hour

As an homage to Chef Colt Taylor's roots at the Saybrook Fish House, we are launching a throw back happy hour menu including clam chowder croquettes, our Connecticut Lobster Roll and House Made hot dogs with a full assortment of homemade toppings paired with some classic throwback cocktails. Daily 430-6PM in the bar!

Be a part of our constantly changing menu with a glimpse into the process. Wednesday is our FOODIE night, with a discounted omakase of all dishes that are in conceptual stages and help be a part of our judging panel! Our Omakase off menu special on Wednesdays is a discounted 5 courses for $50!
